Elizaberh Furnace, Bilston Iron and Steel works, Wolverhampton, West Midlands in 1978.The furnace was constructed in 1953 &1954 to replace 3 existing blast furnaces on the site.It was named after Elizabeth Margaret Steward, the daughter of the owner of the company.It was the most advanced furnace of its kind in the UK and could produce 275,00-325,000 tons of iron per year.Due to increasing stock levels of iron across British Steel Corporation it was mothballed for 6 months in 1977. It never worked again and was demolished in 1980.
