Bilston Steelworks Open Hearth furnace.When the furnace was tapped the steel was collected in a ladle. During this process other materials such as Ferro Silicon and Manganese were added directly to the ladle to bring the steel to it's final correct composition. This was called the addition stage in the Black Country West Midlands in the 1978
