Leading hand furnace man Bill Blitz Barrington recording an opeayer. The life span of an open hearth furnace was approximately 18 weeks. After this the furnace was taken off production and the entire brickwork was replaced. The Melting Shop at Bilston Steelworks in the Black Country West Midlands in the 1978
