  • Namibia Kunene region Himba village woman Himba people fled from the Nama warriors to the remote north-west in the 19th century They are a subgroup of the Herero The Himba managed to maintain their traditional dress of multi-layered goat-leather miniskirts and ochre-and-mud-encrusted iron, leather and shell jewellery. They use a natural herbal perfume known as 'otjizumba' and smear their skin with a mixture of butter, ash and ochre. They wash once during their lifetime - the day after their wedding  The Himba avoid the modern world and continue a semi-nomadic lifestyle, raising sheep, goats and some cattle...
